Marlee Logan of Clan Logan Society International

Marlee Logan

Assistant Genealogist

Social Media Coordinator

Marlee joined Clan Logan Society International in 2018 after connecting with James C. Logan, President Emeritus, during her personal family history research. Their shared work revealed that they are fifth cousins, and his service as President of the Society at that time encouraged her to become a member. Her hope has always been to help connect her Logan family back to the Logans of Restalrig, a name that has been part of her family lore since her father gave that name to his ranch.

As of 2025, Marlee serves as the Social Media Coordinator and Assistant Genealogist for CLSI. Now retired, she can finally dedicate the time she's long wanted to give. Her goal is to expand community engagement and help build a comprehensive resource for all things Logan.

Before joining CLSI, Marlee worked in supervisory and managerial roles across Florida, including wireless companies, hotels, and her most recent position as a School Secretary and Assistant to the Principal for 17 years. She started researching her family history in 1992 when she set out to learn more about her father and arrange a headstone for his unmarked grave. That work led her to contact the VA, secure a veteran’s headstone, and deepen her dedication to genealogy. She later founded Loganalogy.com, which grew from a family blog into a platform offering beginner guidance, research tips, and services for others.

Since 2018, she has researched dozens of family histories, honing core skills in analysis, writing, organization, historical context, and digital tools. Her management background also enhanced her communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities, all of which support her genealogical pursuits.

She stays current on technology and uses AI as one of many tools in her research. Her research methodology is anchored by the FAN Club technique (Friends, Associates, and Neighbors), which helps identify and overcome research brick walls by studying the social and professional circles of her ancestors.

Marlee was born in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, and moved to Clay County, Florida, the summer after eighth grade. Though now living in a different area, she remains in Clay County and considers herself a true Floridian. Her genealogy journey began with family mysteries. Her father died when she was four, and as a teenager, she learned she had a half-sister. More siblings were revealed later, and she eventually traveled to Michigan to meet them. Researching her Logan ancestors took her through the Carolinas, Virginia, England, Slovenia, Poland, Germany, Kashubia, Ireland, and Scotland. An early DNA test showed she was 99 percent European. Today, her working family tree spans roughly fifty generations, and like any dedicated genealogist, she continues to revise early mistakes, or “rookie mistakes,” as new evidence emerges.

She has continued to grow through webinars, courses, and mentorship. One of her earliest influences was Lorine McGinnis Schulze, the Olive Tree Lady, whose guidance shaped her early research until her passing in 2022. She now continues to refine her skills, including citation work, with help from Sean Logan. She is also a Citizen Archivist with the National Archives and is currently focused on intensive study of Scottish history, geography, and records to support the Society's efforts and her own Logan lineage research.

Her Logan lineage connects to the broader Logan story via John Logan, family 1034, Limb 1, who migrated to Washington, Connecticut, in the early 1700s. It is speculated that he came from Northern Ireland. He is the fifth great-grandfather of President Emeritus James C. Logan and the sixth great-grandfather in Marlee’s line. DNA evidence suggests Ayrshire as the family’s origin, though the early Scottish ancestor remains unidentified.

Outside of genealogy, Marlee is an avid gardener, tending plants, flowers, vegetables, and fifteen rose bushes. She loves spending time with her family, as well as reading and playing with her Shi-Chi and Corgi.
