Why do I need to join a society - I know I'm a Logan and proud of it. Isn't that enough?
The importance of joining the Society is best understood by looking at the long history and historic results that CLSI has brought about, especially in the last 20 years with its Chief Restoration Project.
History and Objectives of Clan Logan Society International
The original Clan Logan Society was founded in 1913 by Thomas Logan, Esq., Provost of Partick, in Glasgow. Two successful Clan Logan Gatherings were held in Glasgow, in 1913 and 1914. But with the advent of World War I, Clan Gatherings were placed in abeyance. Many clansmen laid down their lives for king and country during this war, and so the original Society disbanded. The new Clan Logan Society International was established in 2002 under the leadership of Vernon E. Logan of North Carolina, USA, to carry on the efforts of the original Society. Vernon led this reformation of the Society nobly and with a passion for a successful future of Clan Logan. In 2018, at the unexpected death of Vernon, James C. Logan was confirmed the second President of the Society by the Board of Directors in accordance with the bylaws of the Society. Under James' leadership, the Society experienced exponential growth in membership and now includes members from Scotland, England, USA, Canada, Portugal, Guam, New Zealand, and Australia. In April of 2025, the Society’s third President, J. Kevin Logan, led Clan Logan to gather for an historic, first-ever global convention in Edinburgh, Scotland. At this convention, supervised by Bute Pursuivant Colin Russell, of the Court of the Lord Lyon, the clan made known by near-unanimous acclamation that they wished to have Kevin made the Commander of Clan Logan, and lead the future search efforts to find the Chief of the Name and Arms of Logan. The objectives of Clan Logan Society International are to: (1) Re-establish the Chief of Name and Arms of Logan, i.e., Logan of that Ilk, in order to take the Chief’s place on the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs (2) Foster Logan family and clan sentiment and spirit, thereby cultivating and developing a sense of clanship, and promoting sociability and friendly discourse between members (3) Collect and preserve the history, traditions, arts, and artifacts connected with the Logan families of Scotland and Ireland and their kin of the Scottish diaspora; and provide for future research into, and presentation of, the aforementioned collection and preserved work, for all Logans to enjoy (4) Encourage the wearing of tartans, the Clan Logan crest, and other Highland attire, especially tartans historically linked to the Logans (5) Establish awards, scholarships, or grants for the following: - Competition undertaken in the name of Clan Logan and approved by the Board - Research into the history, traditions, and legends of Clan Logan, and - Publication or other media production of stories of Clan Logan. - Raise funds in support of all the foregoing purposes.
