Happy New Year fellow Clan Logan Members, Family, and Friends around the world. As we kick off the new year, there are so many changes underway it is hard to keep track of it all. Let me see if I can summarize some of the main topics.

It is with bittersweet feelings that I am stepping in to the role of President. I have worked alongside James for many years now, and consider him a mentor, a friend, and a leader beyond compare. When he was suddenly thrust into this same role a few years ago I had no doubt he was up to the challenge. I am humbled by the faith he has placed in me to continue on in his role of building the Clan Logan Society’s membership, as well as defining the proper successor to the hereditary Chief of the Clan Logan. I am grateful that James will continue to support the Society through leading the Membership Committee, and providing me with his advice.

You’ll notice on the website that the PayPal links for the Membership dues is active once again. The Society’s Board has voted to re-instate the requirement of annual dues to be an active member of the Society. There are the three levels of membership available once again - Individual ($25 USD), Household ($45 USD), and Junior ($10 USD). To aid people in planning this in their budget, the payments will be due by February 28, 2022. The costs are the same as they were in 2020 when they were placed on hold due to the challenges people were facing with the responses to the pandemic.

We have many opportunities for the general membership to step up and become even more active in the Society.

• Currently we have openings across the USA for hospitality tent stewards (or ‘Conveners’ as Ed Logan is fond of saying) at many Highland Festivals and Games that are being held once again

• Steven Logan, Commissioner for Canada, may have similar opportunities for members to help with as well

• We also would love to have someone step up and work with us on the Society’s website, blog, and social media pages

• The Society has an opening for our Genealogist, which is a Board Member role

As we move forward into 2022 we will continue having our online meetings. While we are still discussing the finer points of having a theme for this year in the Board, there is a hint in this quarter's Our Valour newsletter. The last few months I have been working with David Wooten, Director of the American College of Heraldry on a project. I have been keenly interested in how a person goes about developing and registering a Coat of Arms since John Marjoribanks provided us such an outstanding update on the search for the Chief of the Clan Logan, a presentation that included information about the last Chief of Name and Arms’ coat of arms. In the Feature Article, Mr. Wooten enlightens us on how the coat of arms for the American College of Heraldry has been emblazoned over the last 50 years. Watch for more stories on heraldry in upcoming issues.

We have much to look forward to in 2022, including a much-hoped-for reopening of the Scottish historical archives. This will hopefully help us conclude our search for the Chief of the Clan Logan in very short order. I look forward to serving as your President, and helping to continue the growth we experienced under James’ leadership.
